ABOUT THIS TOUR
Our walking Tour start in a famous Funchal building built in 1940, the Mercado dos Lavradores, an important reference to all of those visiting us. It is our main local farm market where we find regional products for the taste of all tourist wanting the necessary tranquility for shopping.
We continue walking and go through the Old Town visiting the Santa Maria Street, the oldest street of Funchal where today you have a lot of restaurants and shops painted with Madeiran Street Art beauty.
We come along in the Sea Avenue to go straight to the City Door, once the main gate from the Sea to the Madeiran capital.
Our next stop is the famous Funchal Cathedral Saint Sé, built in 1514 by the King D. Manuel I, we will visit the interior of the Church and see it’s amazing roof and gold carving.
Moving along the Avenue Arriaga we see the statue of João Gonçalves Zarco, the first Governor of Funchal, where we can see the amazing sculptor work and it’s meaning behind it.
We go to one of the protection Forts of Funchal, the Palace of São Lourenço, see this magnificent Port that suffered a lot of upgrades throughout the time.
We end up our Tour in the Catarina City Park, one of the beautiful parks of the city full with mysteries.
